Boy With Binoculars
Outdoor Summer I Spy Hunt

Get outdoors and explore the wonder of Summer!  Simply print this free Outdoor Summer I Spy Hunt check list (laminate if you want to reuse it), grab a marker and take your kiddo(s) outside on a beautiful summer day to try to spy the items on the list. Some items could be collected for crafts (like rocks and flowers), so take along a bag to carry them!

Summer Measuring Practice

Grab a ruler and measuring tape and head outside to get some measuring practice! How tall is the water table? How long is your scooter or baseball bat? How tall is a flower? How long is a worm (maybe not)? Bring along a notebook if your child likes to record numbers. Happy measuring!

Summer Activities

String Lights Display
Evening Firefly Fun

Snuggle up after dinner and read, "World of Eric Carle, Firefly, Light Up the Sky - Flashlight Pop-Up Adventure Book". It comes with a flashlight, so you'll be ready to head outdoors when the sun goes down. Then, the firefly hunt begins! You can use any container that allows them to breathe or get this inexpensive insect catching kit. Once you have several, lay down under the stars and watch your very own light show. Don't forget to release them before you head back inside.

Comparing Weights with Balance Scale-Summer

My grandson loves weighing and comparing items with this balance scale.  He quickly understood that the lighter items go up and the heavier item goes down. If your child likes to record data, you can use this free printable. For summer, you can compare items like bouncy balls, sidewalk chalk, rocks, popsicle sticks, cup of water, ice, etc.

Patriotic Pretend Parade

Kids love parades! Hopefully, you have one or more near you to celebrate our beautiful country. Even better - you can create your own parade. Get some red, white and blue streamers & painter's tape from the Dollar store and let your kiddo go wild decorating their bike, scooter or mini car. When they are finished, find a nearby park or neighborhood with a sidewalk and let the fun begin. Play some patriotic songs on your phone while your kiddo waves to all spectators. Don't forget to wear something patriotic, or a fun costume!
